...my life got twisted upside down.

So let's just say we can scrap everything I had planned for the apartment because I no longer live there. Yep. That's right. On April 20th, I packed up all of my things (which was more than I thought) within 4 hours, made at least 15 trips down and up 3 flights of stairs, stuffed my little Kia Optima with all my belongings, and drove 961 miles in 16 hours to arrive back at the one place I should have never left. HOME. Home is where my heart is, and my heart is my family. As for the specifics of what went wrong, that is to be left to the imagination...I lack the capability of putting others on blast on the internet. We all know things happen for a reason, so I'm using this as an experience to learn and grow from. I'm picking myself up and wiping a clean slate, a rebirth if you will. Now that I'm out here in Fayetteville, alone most of the day, I find that the silence is deafening. I realized how little I speak everyday. So every now and then I'll speak out loud and when I hear my voice and no one else's in return, it makes me feel more lonely than ever. It just slips out subconsciously like my brain would like to hear something other than the T.V. rambling on for hours at a time. I've been here for 3 months. Still no job, but if I'm being honest with myself I really haven't been looking. I've worked on my resume but have yet to turn it in. I don't know why but I dread job interviews. It just seems so ridiculous. You have to sit down infront of a total stranger and prove yourself in like 5 minutes. I hate the whole learning process too. I hate not knowing what I'm doing and having to ask a millions questions, because I know that can get annoying. But, I seriously need to get off of my ass and do something before I go nuts. So I'm watching The Nate Berkus Show and a segment on today's show is about happiness. HOW ARE YOU READING MY MIND NATE BERKUS!? The suggestions they provided were: 1.Building strong relationships with others. 2.Exercise. 3.Getting enough sleep. 4.Getting dressed in the morning. 5.Listening to upbeat music in the car. 6.Going outdoors. Number one: I was content when I lived back home with my family because our relationships were strong and unconditional. Now that I'm out here with Steve, he's all I've got. If I were to get mad at him (which happens on a very rare occasion, thank God) I'd have no one to turn to. Sure, I could use the telephone, but it's not the same comfort I would get from a face to face conversation, or, even better, a hug. Number two: Working out always makes me feel better. After it's over, I feel like "Hey, atleast I accomplished something today." Pretty lame, I know. So I do one out of the 6 suggestions. Way to go Robin. Number three: I haven't been on a regular sleep schedule since about a year ago. Basic training, lights out at 2100 (9:00 PM) wake up at 0400. Never sound sleep because I'd always wait to take a shower until 2100 because the latrine would be packed until then, then writing letters home took another 30 minutes, and then there was always fireguard. Waking up in the middle of the night to do a headcount and make sure the barracks didn't catch fire, and cleaning the bay and latrine for an hour. Never could get sound sleep when you're worried about waking up and getting fully dressed in ACU's a few hours later. Same thing applied to AIT. If it wasn't CQ (Charge of Quarters), sitting at a desk watching the entry and logging who came in and out of the building while completing cleaning tasks, it was weapons guard, which required us to sit directly infront of a door to the arms room, which was locked and was 2 feet away from the other two soldiers on CQ. Now that I'm not in training anymore, my sleep schedule is never the same. Usually I'm up late at night and sleep until late morning. And Steve, bless his heart, snores so that definitely doesn't help. Earplugs, Tylenol PM and falling asleep first is usually the answer. Number four: When I wake up I usually just dress for the gym, even though I won't go to the gym until 5 o'clock that evening. Hair is curly and in a bun. Why? Because I'm super lazy and it takes forever to flat iron because it's so thick and long, so I just wash it and throw it up in a nappy bun. I actually almost cut it just for that reason, but I chickened out and got a trim instead. Make up. The most I put on is mascara to go to the gym. I usually save getting done up for the weekend. Number five: Definitely a no brainer. So I guess this makes 2 out of 6. I try to update my iPhone atleast once a week with new music, but I hardly ever drive my car. Mainly because I need to get the A/C fixed and it's getting hot outside! Plus going everywhere alone is still something I'm getting used to. God I need some friends! There's only so much HGTV I can watch lol. Number six: I love being outdoors. Back home, one of my favorite places was Girard Park. Whenever I needed to kill time or a place to think it was my go-to spot. I'd usually stop and get a pina colada snocone from Cajun Sno (best sno cone place in the world). I need to find a park out here. Just writing this has helped a lot. I'm never gonna feel comfortable here if I don't get out of this apartment and explore it. I think I'm gonna start going to aerobic and spin classes on post. Maybe I can meet some friends there. I'm pretty excited about tonight. I'm going to BWWs with an AIT homegirl who's in the same situation I'm in. Moved out here for her man. Oh the sacrifices we make lol. So hopefully this will be the last of my bitching, and the beginning of me trying to rectify the situation!

A Fresh Start

So I've decided to change the blog again. So many things have changed in my life since the last time I posted on here regularly. I've got a new love. My hunnybunny Steve who adores me and I adore equally as much or even more. We're engaged. We haven't set a date or started planning. I guess I'm not the typical bride who's been planning her wedding since childhood. Now that I've watched countless hours of Say Yes to the Dress, Four Weddings, and My Fair Wedding with David Tutera I'm even more clueless than I was before. There's so much to decide on and I don't know the first thing about planning a wedding, but I'll keep that for another post.

I've moved out of my parents' house for the first time ever. Honestly had I not met Steve, I would've stayed there forever. So I made the 964 mile move from Lafayette, Louisiana to Fayetteville, North Carolina. I've been here since January and I'm still dealing with bouts of homesickness. You never really learn to appreciate a place until you're no longer there. I love and miss my family, my dog, my friends, the food, the music, and the city. So instead of moping around the apartment, I've undertaken the task of decorating and styling the apartment to feel more like a home. I spend the day searching blogs for inspiration and ideas and scowering craigslist for finds. So far the only furniture we've bought new is the bedroom set and that was before I knew that not every piece has to be "matchy-matchy," a phrase Steve often makes fun of me with.

This is one of many projects we've got going on in the apartment. I felt like the kitchen and entryway needed some interest so I decided to go with some pretty bold stripes. A little measuring, a level, tons of frog tape (which is amazing by the way!), three coats of paint later and voila!

I bought them because they were $16, but mainly because they have a similar shape to the LD Tuttle boots. I've picked up quite a few steals from Payless. You can read the article here. I recently did a mini photo shoot for a group of recycling enthusiasts called the Common Thread 3. They use vintage and discarded clothing, jewelry, and purses and rework them into amazing pieces and I was lucky enough to show them off here in the shoot and for their showing Derelique2Chic at the openeing of a new art gallery/workspace in Lafayette called The Alamo.

'Scuse the eyes! I blinked! This modeling thing still makes me nervous. I feel like I don't know what I'm doing...ALL THE TIME! It's kind of funny. Now that I think about it, I'm kind of a freelance model.

I've never been to an art gallery let alone to an opening of one. It was a really great experience. Sometimes I forget I'm an adult. I keep having these "Oh, I can do that now!" moments. For example, they served wine at the opening and I re-realized "Hey! I can sip wine at swanky parties!" I took a sip and remembered that I don't really like wine. I want to, but it just doesn't sit right with me. Maybe if I try different ones until I find the one I like... Anyway, I met a bunch of really interesting and talented people. Thank God I didn't have to do it by myself. My hunny-bunny/main squeeze Devon was right by my side!

cute right!? =) I think I've found me a photographer now! We took these pics outside his apartment. I like my candid photos more than the staged ones. Candids reflect me better. I feel really stale in staged ones. I tried getting the red eye out but the editing program I used made me look like I had a wonky eye!

Now that I have a photographer, hopefully this will lead to more outfit posts! I know this one is long but I felt like it was overdue. Thanks for reading this ridiculously long post! And thanks to my followers!

NOLA Worn Again Challenge Fashion Show

My mom and sister will probably kill me when they find out I posted these. My mom says she doesn't photograph well but I beg to differ! My sister makes the best faces when she's not texting her fingers off on her $400 blackberry (ridiculous).

I cut bangs! Last time I had bangs was sophomore year so I thought I should bring them back. I probably should've waited until it got cooler because if I'm outside for 10 minutes they start sticking to my forehead! It's weird. I think I'm the only person in Lafayette who has full bangs. Most girls tend to do the long hair with the side swoop that's damn near their ears. It's like the female comb-over. It's an epidemic out here.

Took a trip to Texas this weekend. My dad's aunt passed away so her funeral was in Galveston, but she was buried like 2 hours away in Wharton where my dad's family has a plot. I got to meet a whole bunch of my dad's family that I never met before. I could tell my dad was really having a good time. He got to hear some stories about his grandfather and meet one of his grandfather's estranged brother's sons.

Houston and surrounding areas are ridiculously gorgeous. Especially Katy. Everything is landscaped and manicured beyond belief! It's too bad I didn't get to shop. Someone told me the Forever 21 downtown is big enough to get lost in. Definitely stopping there next time!

I swear we drove around in circles yesterday. Note to all: Invest in a good GPS. Cheap ones will fail you. We entered a new address into it and it decided to bring us back to the last address entered. We figured that out when it brought us halfway back to Galveston instead of Katy which is in the opposite direction. I also made us take an EZ tag highway which we're more than likely going to get a ticket for.

Wow! I think this is the longest post I've done! Go me! I plan to start doing more personal posts instead of reposting stuff; I know that gets old after a while. Thanks to all of you who follow me! It's cool knowing other people read this.

Abercrombie & Fitch Plans Further Price Cuts After 1Q Loss

Reporting a deeper-than-anticipated first-quarter loss, Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (ANF) – apparel retailer, which had though reduced its prices during the quarter, but had resisted as drastic price-cuts as the other retailers - intends reviewing its earlier stand with regard to price reductions.

As a result of ANF’s staunch defense of a fundamentally non-promotional approach, it posted a $26.8 million first-quarter loss, in comparison to its year-before income of $62.1 million. The retailer’s gross margin plunged 350 basis points to 63.3 percent, chiefly due to discounting.

The company is now “actively planning for meaningful reductions,” particularly at its Hollister and children’s stores, and ongoing clearance events.

Addressing the investors at a conference call, ANF Chairman and CEO Mike Jeffries talked about the company’s “miss” with regard to anticipate some key women’s fashion styles. Jefferies said: “Clearly we missed dresses and clearly we weren't as aggressive with print and pattern as we should have been. We were wrong. I was wrong, and we're correcting as we go forward.”

Talking about the consumers’ reluctance to spend on “premium brands” amid recession, Jefferies said that despite the company taking pride in the quality of its brands and its unique store experience, and not on price; the kind of price-consciousness that has of late been dictating the shoppers’ moves is something that he had not witnessed before.

I've heard a lot of talk about this show but never officially watched it until last night. I was always so turned off from it because its set in Louisiana and many TV shows and movies don't tend to get the Louisiana accent correct. This one wasn't too bad. (maybe because it's in northern LA) Any who, I'm fucking obsessed. I loved the first episode and I can't stop.

Mo'nique was on Oprah the other day and they briefly spoke about it. I just watched the trailer and knew I had to post it. This movie is an accurate portrayal of what really happens in America everyday. Plus it might be the only one of Mariah's acting performances that isn't barfworthy.

Jamal Batiste and the Jam All-Stars. They were the first band and they were really really good. Jamal (the drummer) is ridiculously talented!

Rotary Downs. They have a sort of Modest Mouse vibe which I totally love. The girl with the maracas also played the tambourine, cowbell, and that little thing that make the "shicky-shicky" noise (I wish I knew the name but you can't really type "shicky-shicky" noise in google!) She rocked it the whole time! She totally inspired me. I think I need a tambourine in my life now. The guy with the trumpet was pretty awesome too. Full of energy!

Bonerama. Name kinda scared me at first, but they're a good brass party band. The 30+ part of the crowd seemed to enjoy it more.

Cowboy Mouth. I really have been out of the loop on this one. Cowboy Mouth has been around for years and I never checked them out. I was missing out. Probably the most energetic, crowd-participating bands I've ever seen.

Sooo today is my birthday! Last night Sam, Brittney, Dev and I went downtown where I finally got to wear a wristband. I know it's lame but I felt more comfortable than usual. I got paranoid about getting carded. I've been kicked out of a club once. It's really not fun and super embarassing! But we had a great time and we ended the night at Mel's diner (hence the checkered floor) where I got my favorite french toast.

I know this is my first outfit post and I know the pictures aren't great but that's what you get when your photographer is tipsy and dancing and shooting all at the same time! Love you Dev!

So it's 5:17 am and I'm working on my English paper. I've been working on it for 2 days now. I overthink to much and edit everything I write so I told myself I'm not going to sleep until I finish it. I've been working on it since 12. I should've been done by now, IT'S A THREE PAGE PAPER FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, but I'm super picky. I think once I get to the end of page 2 I'm probably going to pass out. Damn you Nathaniel Hawthorne and your ambiguity! This is the fastest I've typed all day :(
